THE FIGURE

My figurative work explores the tension between outer appearance and inner essence — often times shaped by the things that matter most in my own life. Wether I am painting a known figure or one completely fabricated, I am motivated by what the paint tells me in the moment and the personal feelings needing to be expressed. How I apply paint — loose and expressive or precise and controlled — is dictated by the subject and the moment. What never changes is the goal: to capture the person, and the feeling, as honestly as I can.
